The health of our children and staff are a top priority at Foundations. As part of our curriculum, we teach and model healthy habits- such as frequent handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes. Our programs conduct daily health checks for both staff and children to ensure that everyone is feeling well. While we have a routine throughout the day of cleaning and sanitizing key touch areas within the classrooms, we also contract with an outside cleaning company to provide an extra layer of protection.
Research shows that washing hands with soap and water could reduce deaths from diarrheal disease by up to 50%.
Researchers estimate that if everyone routinely washed their hands, 1 million deaths a year could be prevented.
A large percentage of foodborne disease outbreaks are spread by contaminated hands. Handwashing can reduce the risk of foodborne illness and other infections.
Handwashing can reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses, like colds, in the general population by 16–21%.
Daily Health Checks for Staff & Children
The daily health check is an important part of each school day to ensure the health and safety of all children and staff in any education program. The purpose of the daily health check is to identify children with symptoms of illness and refer them to seek medical care when needed.
The daily health check includes a brief assessment as we welcome each child into our program and can identify potential concerns about a child’s health, including a recent illness or injury. Daily health checks help reduce the spread of infectious diseases in childcare by identifying children who should stay home due to illness.
A healthy and supportive school environment helps children and adolescents develop the skills they need to recognize and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, appreciate the perspectives of others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. This is why our curriculum incorporates healthy habits into our daily lesson plans.
Regular Classroom Cleaning
Our teachers clean their classrooms throughout the day, to minimize the spread of germs and maintain clean surfaces. You will find our teachers wiping down tabletops, bookshelves, toys, door knobs, etc. at various times throughout the day.
Contracted Cleaning Company
While a lot of people think that cleanliness is just surface level, it needs to go beyond that. Disinfection, regular janitorial services, and high standards of cleanliness need to be maintained. This is why Foundations contracts with an outside professional cleaning company, to ensure that we provide a safe and clean environment for your children to thrive and grow!
